Ghana’s New Inspector-General of Police: COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno

On March 13, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama appointed Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP), succeeding Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. 

Career Overview

COP Yohuno brings over four decades of law enforcement experience to his new role. He has held several key positions within the Ghana Police Service, including:

• Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Operations): Oversaw operational strategies and implementations.

• Accra Regional Commander (2013-2015): Led security initiatives in the capital region.

• Director-General of the Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate (MTTD): Managed traffic regulations and road safety measures.

In recognition of his dedicated service, COP Yohuno was awarded the Grand Medal in 2012.
